Any one for some adventure???

Yes, it finally arrived!
Our Campout Day was on the 29th Novemeber at the Pedersen's farm. The weather was a bit damp but it didn't dampen any of the enthusiasm the children and parents displayed while eeling (a very original way, thanks to Mr Pedersen), jousting, tent pitching, cooking and BMX riding.
Thank you to those fabulous parents and brave souls who combated the weather and forged ahead with such a great day.
Everyone arrived back at school exhausted but very happy!!

On the 28th of November Room 1 and Room 3 went to Hamilton Zoo for a fabulous visit. It was such a great time. Some of us even caught a glimpse of the new tiger arriving from Auckland Zoo.
We dodged the rain and went walking around the Zoo first, then we went in to the Education Room where we learnt about the history of Zoo's.
Thank you to all the parents who helped get us there and to the staff of the Hamilton Zoo.

Trail Blazing Day

In preparation for our Campout Day Room 3 and some room 5 children learnt about creating and following trails. We had great fun making and  following some interesting trails. Thanks Mrs Jones.

Ancient Art.

In Room 3 we have been exploring how ancient people used art to recount and write their stories about how they lived and hunted. We looked at Aboriginal art from Australia and Egyptian art, then we created our own. Here is some of our artwork  based on Aboriginal art.

Stream Planting Stage 2

Once again we donned our gumboots, threw a spade over our shoulders, picked up plants and headed down the the stream to plant up some more of the banks. It was great to see so many parents out again to help us. Thank you everyone!

Reading Fair

We are deep in preparation for the first Reading Fair the school has had. We have begun by selecting our books, painting our back boards, identfying the title, author, illustrators or photographers. Its is a lot of work but we are discovering IT skills, learning how to write persuasive arguments to "sell" our opinions to you about our books and create the displays.

Here are a few from on -line that we are using as models of what we could create. We need these finished by Calf Club day so you can see what we have achieved.

Our visit to Katikati Muesum

We  spent a wonderful day exploring the fabulous "past" at Katikati Museum. We spent  the day having lessons based on the past curriculum in school learning cursive writing, morse code, writing on slates, embroidery; played old-faishoned games like tops, knuckle bones and marbles; wore the school clothes of yesterday while we mowed the lawns using a hand mower,

did the laundry using a washboard and pumping the household water. What hard work!

We have a wining entry for the Digi Awards in Our Classroom.

This stunning image titled Helping Hands has been selected to go through to the Digi Awards in Matamata. Well done Jolie and Shawney for this great shot!

Meet our new Principal!

Kuranui school has a new principal that has joined us here in our wonderful school. Mrs hastings comes to us from Hamilton where she has taught at St Peters Channel in Te Rapa for the last 15 years. Welcome to Kuranui, we look forward to working with you!

We explored birds, planes, kites, helicopters and parachutes. It was great fun and we want to thank Mrs Webb for being there with us, we couldn't have done it without you! We hope our smiles tell you how much we enjoyed it.

Giant Soup

HO HO HO! Fee Fi Foe Fum!
Mrs Jones and Room 3 made a GIANT pot of soup on a very cold winter's day. Some of our children had been reading Giant Soup and we have all been learning to write instructions. There were some fabulous recipe suggestions for our Giant Soup that came from our writing. Well done everyone!!
It tasted a great too, even if we didn't put a boy in it!

Kahurangi Dance Theatre

Kuranui School has been most fortunate to join other small schools in the Matamata Cluster to see this fabulous group of performers deliver a polished, professional act.
They delighted us with their wit, skill and craft as we watched, interacted and thoroughly enjoyed our selves. thank you to the Principal of St Josephs for allowing to attend this spectacular event. We all loved it!!

HAND WASHING, ANYONE!!

Kuranui School has had a visit  from the health Nurse, Mrs Grant to tell us about how to deal with all the coughs and sneezes that winter brings. We learn that a sneeze travels at 380 kmph. That's amazing!!
More importantly we have been remembering to wash our hands as this is our best defence against the germs that lurk everywhere we are, especially as we are cooking up a storm in Room 3.

The Cabbage Tree Cafe Visit.

Wow!!!
Room three children were treated to the most incredible cafe experience in Tirau. Sharon and Nigel at The Cabbage Tree Cafe  invited us to join them to experience the inside workings of their cafe, restaurant and bakery. First we ate banana, bacon and french toast for breakfast followed by bread making tour where children rolled and plaited their own bread. Next we split up into groups to make hash browns, see coffee being made and find out about food storage and kitchen safety.
Thank you so much for the amazing teaching and learning that you provided for the class. We really appreciate the time and effort you went too. Our children and parents are still buzzing from the experience.
Who would know that behind that tiny looking cafe such a lot is happening!

We are ready for the big time!

Most of the men in Room 3 are wearing the most incredible smiles these days that may have something to do with the fact they are Runners Up in the Orr Cup for 2013. In a hard won final between Matamata and Kuranui we were sadly defeated but what a fabulous game with all the promise of the All Blacks vs France. Tumeke!. You made us proud!!

This week Room 1 joined us to try out our procedural writing. After an initial attempt we succeeded in making 20 pots of slime, ranging in colour from blue to deep green. Great stuff for a wet weekend!!
Thank you for being such cool learners Room1 and thank you to Bryoney who was fortunately on a Teachers Only Day from Hamilton Girls High.

Enviro Schools Workshop

On the 17th of May, a group of students went with Mrs Jones to the Enviro Schools Workshop held in Tokoroa with Amanda Jones. We explored how we could minimise waste in our school community and the benefits this would create for all participants in the community. Dylan, Bronlee, Kaitja, Danni, Calais  and Cody - James were all keen contributors and demonstrated great understanding of environmental systems. Well done! A big thank you to Mrs Storey and Mrs Van Gog for both the transport and the contributions you made to our learning.

Easter picnic at Lichfield School.

All our Year One, Two and Three students had a special Easter treat this year! We visited Lichfield School to take part in the Putaruru Junior Cluster Picnic. We had a great time tripping and tumbling participating in an old fashioned picnic all dressed up in our beautiful Easter Bonnets. There were sack races, three legged races and spud and spoon races. Our parents joined in the fun and were a huge help throughout the day. Thank you to you all for taking us there and helping us have so much fun!

Ronald Mcdonald comes to Kuranui School

Hello! Who have we here?
I thought l recognised those red shoes and stripey socks. Yes, it is him! It is Ronald and he was here to tell us about road safety. He decided to stay and read us a great story then posed for some photos with our lovely students, mums and pre-schoolers.

Swimming Sports

What a great bunch of swimmers we have at Kuranui School! This year we had a combined Swimming Sports with the senior school and junior school together, that was a huge success. We competed in age groups and learning teams, Room 3 had some stand out swimmers. Well done boys and girls.
